Effect of CBL combined with TBL teaching method in simultaneous training of clinical and scientific research ability of orthodontic postgraduates

Abstract:

Objective

To study the teaching effect of cace-based learning (CBL) combined with team-bsed learning (TBL) teaching method in simultaneous training of clinical and scientific research ability of orthodontic postgraduates.

Methods

A total of 24 orthodontic postgraduate students of grade 2018 and 2019 in Guanghua Stomatological College of Sun Yat-sen University were selected and randomly divided into two groups. The experimental group adopted CBL combined with TBL teaching method, and the control group adopted lecture-based learning (LBL) traditional teaching method. The teaching content mainly included case analysis and related research of common malocclusion in orthodontics. At the end of the course, the clinical and scientific research abilities of the two groups were assessed, and the evaluation of CBL combined with TBL teaching method was investigated by questionnaire. The results of the two groups were analyzed by independent sample t-test and descriptive analysis.

Results

In terms of clinical ability, the test scores of the experimental group and the control group were (8.8 ± 0.8) and (7.9 ± 0.9) , respectively, with statistical significance (t = -2.67, P = 0.014) . In terms of scientific research ability, the test scores of the experimental group and the control group were (8.1 ± 0.5) and (6.9 ± 1.0) , respectively, with statistical significance (t = -3.84, P<0.001) . The main advantage of CBL combined with TBL is the mutual promotion of clinical and scientific research.

Conclusion

CBL combined with TBL is helpful to improve the clinical and scientific research ability of orthodontic postgraduates simultaneously.
