AF-BF disance and AXB angle analysis of children with cleft lip and palate

Abstract:

Objective

To study the AF-BF distance and AXB angle of patients with cleft lip and palate.

Methods

Lateral cephalograms were taken for 20 children with mixed dentition and 30 adolescents with permanent dentition.AF-BF distance and AXB angle were measured and compared with those of Beijing children and adolescents with normal occlusion.

Results

There were no differences in AF-BF distance and AXB angle between male and female children with mixed dentition and adolescents with permanent dentition (P >0.05).AF-BF distance of Xinjiang children with mixed dentition and adolescents with permanent dentition were smaller than those of Beijing children and adolescents with normal occlusions (P <0.05), but there was no difference in AXB angle (P >0.05).

Conclusions

AF-BF distance can be used as one of the clinical parameters to evaluate the anterior-posterior relationship between the maxilla and mandible of cleft lip and palate patients.
