Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the infection of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) in the cancerous and paracancerous tissue of oral squamous cell carcinoma. To explore the correlation between the Hp and the oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Methods

Real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) detecting systemwas used to identify the Hp nucleic acid in carcinoma and paracancerous tissues of 37 patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma and normal mucosa of 32 patients with injuries of the jaws, and the positive product of qPCR was analyzed by DNA sequencing.

Results

QPCR showed that the positive rate of 24.32% of Hp nucleic acid in oral carcinoma and paracancerous tissues was significantly higher than that (0%) of normal control samples of the patients with injuries of the jaws (χ2= 6.935, P= 0.008) . Among the 9 Hp nucleic acid positive oral carcinoma cases, 8 paracancerous samples were positive with Hp nucleic acid and 2 cancerous tissues were positive. This result also indicated a statistical significance (P= 0.015) .

Conclusions

Hp infection exists in some cancerous and paracancerous tissue of oral squamous cell carcinoma, and there was an association between Hp infection and the occurrence and development of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
