The development on fluoride varnishes for preventing dental caries in children and adolescents

Abstract

Abstract:

Fluoride varnish is a fluorating agent， mainly used to prevent dental caries in children and adolescents by topical application from the 1960s. Compared to fluoride mouth rinse，fluoride gel and other topical application of fluoride， fluoride varnish has advantages of easy operation，highly acceptable， increased resistence on tooth， safe and cost-high efficiency etc. Literature search of the review was performed in the following databases：OVID， PUBMED， ScienceDirect etc. Relative studies were collected to review the preventive effect， safety， problems existed and future development of fluoride varnish. Fluoride varnish is effective to prevent dental caries in children and adolescents；and how to make the better use of its preventive effect， it is necessary to have more studies had high methodological quality.
