Abstract:
The clinical examination is the basis of oral and maxillofacial surgery and the essential skill for students. It is still a challenge to improve dental students′ practical techniques in clinical thinking. At present, most medical schools adopt the traditional "lecture-based learning" teaching method. In this mode of teaching, students get good academic performance in theoretical tests, without enhanced capability in clinical diagnostics. In this study, Shanxi Medical University School and Hospital of Stomatology analyzed the effects of "lecture-based learning" teaching method and small-scale private online courses (SPOC) flipped classrooms on the clinical examination of oral and maxillofacial surgery for undergraduate five-year senior students. The results showed that the SPOC flipped classroom improved students′ knowledge, skills and autonomous learning ability by the simulation of clinical situations, which can be used as a reference for the further reform of stomatology teaching.
