Abstract:

The degradation of exposed collagen at the bottom of resin-dentine hybrid layers is attributed to adhesive failure of resin restoration. By facilitating additional molecular bond or hydrogen bond within dentine collagen in hybrid layers, the application of chemical cross-linking has been confirmed to increase the mechanical performance and resistance against the enzymic degradation of dentine matrix, which results in the improvement on durability of the resin-dentine bonding. Hence, we analyse and discuss the mechanism and applications in dentine adhesive of chemical cross-linking.
