Abstract:
Objective To investigate the occlusal characteristics of complete overdenture (COD) retained by stud attachments in mandibular and complete denture (CD) .
Methods Twenty-four subjects were rehabilitated with CD and COD and wore the dentures 2 to 3 years. Each study group was composed of 12 subjects. An occlusal analysis, using the T-Scan Ⅱ System, was performed to assess the following occlusal parameters: the distribution of occlusal contacts and the occlusion time.
Results (1) For AOA and COF X there are no statistically significant difference between CD and COD (P > 0.05) . (2) The COF Y of COD move forward. There are significant differences between the two groups. (3) OT in CD group is 0.28 s, OT of COD group is 0.59 s. There are significant differences between the two groups (P < 0.05) .
Conclusion CD and COD achieve bilaterally balanced in ICO. In COD group, center of occlusal force moves forward, while the occlusion time increased significantly.
