Abstract:

Objective

To measure the distance between the tip of interdental gingiva and alveolar crest (GC) in various age and different gender.

Methods

The sample consisted of 88 patients, which were scanned by Philips brilliance 64 CT for three-dimensional reconstruction. The subjects were divided into four groups, each of which contained 22 patients:groupA1:male adolescents; groupA2:female adolescents; group B1:male adults; group B2:female adults. The GC of U56 (between the maxillary second premolar and first molar) and L67 (between the mandibular first and second molar)were measured.

Results

GC:(1)Both U56 and L67 were about 4.2 mm. (2)There was no significant difference in age and gender (P >0.05).

Conclusion

In U56 and L67, the tip of interdental gingiva can serve as the reference point for miniscrew insertion.

Key words: Miniscrew, Interdental gingiva, Multi-slice spiral CT
