Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the expressions of ATG5 and ATG7 in erosive oral lichen planus, and explore the role of autophagy in the malignant transformation of oral lichen planus.

Methods

The expressions of ATG5 and ATG7 were detected by immunochemistry in the normal oral mucosa, erosive oral lichen planus and oral squamous cell carcinomas.

Results

The expressions of ATG5 and ATG7 were positive in the above three different tissues. The expression levels of ATG5 and ATG7 were much higher in erosive oral lichen planus than in normal oral mucosa as were as oral squamous cell carcinomas(P <0.05).

Conclusion

The abnormal autophagy exists in erosive oral lichen planus.

Key words: ATG5, ATG7, Oral lichen planus, Autophagy
