The application of V shape incision in parotidectomy

Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the effect of V shape incision in parotidectomy.

Methods

A retrospective analysis on 32 patients who underwent excision of the tumor in parotid gland from May 2008 to Jan.2011 was carried out. All patients underwent the operation partial parotidectomy or Superficial parotidectomy with V shape incision. The clinical complication was recorded.

Results

The operation time last from 0.5 to 1.5 h. The blood loss was from 10 to 80 ml.Only 4 patients appeared transient facial nerve dysfunction, and none was permanent facial paralysis. Six patients appeared salivary siltation or salivary fistula. These complications vanished after pressure dressing. The wound healed uneventfully and was larvaceous. All patients had small surgical scar left and were satisfied with the cosmetic effects.

Conclusion

The V shape incision in parotidectomy is feasible and with few complications.
