Abstract:

Objectives

To investigate the effect of non-traumatic method in the treatment of tongue mucosa microcystic lymphatic malformation.

Methods

Fifteen patients were treated by submucosal injection of PYM. The injections were repeated at an interval of one week, but not more than 4 sessions within a treatment period. When necessary, the second treatment period was performed 1 month later. The general and local adverse responses were recorded and the clinical outcomes were assessed.

Results

Twelve patients received complete clinical resolution and represented satisfying aesthetic effects after 3 to 6 injections. The remaining 3 patient′s lesions were controlled thoroughly and represented normal lingual mucosa, but the contour of the lesion regions was still not as perfect as normal tongue. No serious general complications including allergy were found. Only one patient appeared overlying mucosa necrosis in injection site. No clinical recurrence or scar was observed during the follow-up from 1 to 5 years.

Conclusions

Treatment of microcystic lymphatic malformation located in lingual mucosa by pinyangmycin sclerotherapy shows a high rate of complete resolution and a short therapy time, and which is worthy of clinical application.

Key words: Microcystic lymphatic malformation, Pinyangmycin, Sclerotherapy
