Abstract:

Objective

To explore the training methods to improve the professional skill and teaching ability of young teachers, so as to establish a perfect, targeted, applicable and easy-to-promote training system for prosthodontics teachers.

Methods

A series of teacher training activities, including reading club, digital virtual simulation training for tooth preparation, discussion on complex cases, collective lesson preparation, teaching training and competition, and participation in teaching management activities, were carried out for young teachers from 2017 to 2020. Based upon anonymous questionnaires, the evaluation of the effectiveness of training activities by young teachers and the evaluation of young teachers by students were analyzed. The results were mainly described by means, frequency and percentage.

Results

All the 13 young teachers participated in the six training activities and the questionnaire survey. The scores were 4.27, 4.36, 4.42, 4.25, 4.05 and 4.15, respectively. Among these activities, reading club and discussion on complex cases were the most popular, with recognition of 92.31% and 84.62%, respectively. Four teachers were qualified as college teachers, and four obtained awards in a teaching competition. The students′ evaluation on teaching performance of the young teachers was higher than 8.93 points, and the tooth preparation skills of young teachers was significantly improved.

Conclusion

Teacher training activities are of great help to young teachers in terms of theoretical knowledge, teaching level, clinical competency and management ability, and contribute to their rapid growth.
