Abstract:

Objective

To explore the difference of dental implantation between periodontits and periodontal healthy people after 3-4 years of treatment.

Methods

Two groups, periodontitis (22 patients, 48 implants) and healthy (25 patients, 34 implants) groups were randomly selected. Index including survival rate of implant, implant marginal bone loss (MBL) , probing depth (PD) and modified bleeding index (mBI) of each group were examined, and the observation period was 3 - 4 years.

Results

During the follow-up time, the survival rate of implant of both groups were 100%. The mean MBL value in periodontitis group was (0.25 ± 0.56) mm, while MBL in periodontally healthy group was (0.34 ± 0.49) mm, which was not statistically different (U = 730, P = 0.416) . PD in periodontitis group was (1.63 ± 0.78) mm, while that in periodontally healthy group was (1.49 ± 0.62) mm. There was no statistically significant difference in PD (U = 901, P = 0.415) .

Conclusions

There was no significant difference between periodontally healthy and chronic periodontitis patients in 3-4 years clinical outcomes. Good clinical outcome can be achieved in patients with chronic periodontitis.
