Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of ultrasonically activated scalpel (UAS) in sublingual gland cyst surgery.

Methods

From August 2012 to October 2014, the clinical data of 37 consecutive patients undergoing sublingual gland cyst surgery using the UAS were recorded. All the operations were succeeded.

Results

The operation time of the 37 patients were 20 ~ 60 min with an average of 35 min. The intraoperative bleeding were 10 ~ 25 ml with an average of 15 ml. No intra-operative and post-operative complications occurred.

Conclusion

The UAS is a safe alternative for sublingual gland cyst surgery. The use of UAS can reduce the operation time and the intraoperative bleeding.
