Abstract:
Objective
To introduce the method and effect of palate defect repairing with arteriae palatina major mucoperiosteal island flap.
Methods
22 cases of palate defects patients (less than 4 cm) received reconstruction with arteriae palatina major mucoperiosteal island flap. 20 out of 22 cases received immediate reconstruction and 2 received secondary reconstruction. The healing effect was observed after operation. They received self-evaluation of speech and deglutition function evaluation by doctors.
Results
There is no flap necrosis in all the 22 cases. Flap and defect margin healed completely, defect area appearance achieved satisfactory recovery and there was no change of speech function in 19 cases. Partial flap margin had a poor healing of 3 cases.
Conclusions
Arteriae palatina major island mucoperiosteum flap is a simple method in the simultaneously repairing of palate defect(less than 4 cm). There is no secondary injury and the effect is satisfactory.
