Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the incidence， the constitutent characteristic， and clinical manifestation of Macau's oral and maxillofacial neoplasm in 2011.

Methods

A retrospective study on 40 cases diagnosed as oral and maxillofacial tumor or tumor like lesion in the department of stomatology CHSS， Macau， since Jan 1st to Dec 31st 2011.

Results

The age of the 40 cases range from 14-94 years old， mid value 58.5 years old， 24 were male and 16 were female. 24 out of 40 were malignant 60%（24/40）. The most common malignant tumor is squamous cell carcinoma （21 cases）， most common site was tongue （8 cases）， then followed by floor of mouth （4 cases）， gingiva （3 cases）， oropharynx region （2 cases） and lip （2 cases）. Benign tumor occupying 30%（12/40）. The mean time from first clinical episode to first consult to a doctor：Benign tumor 36.8 months， malignant neoplasm 5.4 months.The operated cases：Benign tumor and tumor like lesion 7 cases， occupying 43.8%（7/16）. Malignant neoplasm 18 cases， 75%（18/24）.

Conclusions

The squamous cell carcinoma of tongue was the most frequently occurred of malignant carcinoma. The jaws was the most common sit of the benign tumor of oral and maxillofacial region. Further effort should be done to improve the knowledge and recognization to the oral and maxillofacial tumor.
