Reliability and validation of the Chinese version of modified Children&amp;apos; s Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale

Objective

To examine the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of the modified Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale （CFSS-DS） among the children in China.

Methods

The original English version of CFSS-DS was translated into Chinese， pretested and cross-culturally adapted.Subsequently the Chinese version schedule was randomly investigated among 367 children aged 5-12 years old and their parents by a trained inspectors.51 children returned for a second dental appointment during the study period completed the modified CFSS-DS at the second time.Reliability and validity of the translated scale was evaluated later.

Results

Cronbach's alpha of the translated scale was 0.87 and test-rest reliability was 0.72.The 17 items were divided into four domains.Corrected item-domain correlation ranges from 0.58 to 0.90.There was a certain logical relationship between the items among the same domains.There was highly significant association between the self-report of the modified CFSS-DS and the parental-report of modified CFSS-DS， also between the self-report of the modified CFSS-DS and Frankl Behavioral Scale， the correlation of twice were 0.93， -0.411 （P ＜0.01）.

Conclusion

The reliability and validity of the Chinese version of modified CFSS-DS was satisfying.
