Abstract:
Objective
This study aimed to investigate the effect of aluminium borate whisker-SiO2 particles (ABw-SiO2) compound on the flexural properties of light-curing composite resins.
Methods
The influence of the mass ratio of ABw and nano-SiO2 particle, the dosage of TEOS, silane coupling agent and filler compound was studied. The orthogonal experiment of L9(3)4 was designed, using flexural properties as evaluation targets. The effects of the surface morphology of AlBw and the specimen fracture surfaces were characterized by SEM. The unfilled resin was used as negative control, while Z100 (shade A2) used as positive control.
Results
The optimal group had a flexural strength of (123.14 ± 17.37) MPa. It was significantly higher than the unfilled resin group (P<0.05), albeit there was no significant difference between the experimental composite and Z100. The optimal group had a flexural modulus of (8.75±0.45) GPa.
Conclusions
The influence of the mass ratio of ABw and nano-SiO2 particle, the dosage of TEOS, silane coupling agent and filler compound resulted in a significant increase of the flexural properties of dental composite resins by orthogonal design. ABw-SiO2 compound could significantly improve the flexural properties of light-curing dental composites.
