Abstract:
Objective
To discuss the adaptation index, curative effects, advantage and disadvantage of pedicle grafts in restoring the oral and maxillofacial defects after malignant tumor surgery.
Methods
Retrospective study was made on all 36 oral and maxillofacial malignant tumor cases which had been reconstructed by pedicle grafts in our department from 1998-2003. Tumor stage and grade, defects area, the adaptation and effects of pedicle grafts were recorded.
Results
All cases showed good effects both in appearance and function.
Conclusion
For better outcome, adaptation index, accurate operation and delicate nusing care are the most important key points. Malignant tumor surgery with pedicle grafts restoration ensures not only enough coverage of tissue resection but also well reconstruction for appearance and function. In addition, compared with vascularized myocutaneous flaps, pedicle grafts produces less trauma and is less time-consuming.
