Expression of Toll-like receptor 4 in a rat pulp injury model

Objective

To investigate the TLR4 expression in dentinogenesis in a rat pulp injury model and explore the role of TLR4 in dental pulp injury and repair.

Methods

A rat pulp injury model was established by pulp exposure. Dental pulp inflammation was monitored by histopathological examination. Distribution of TLR4 in dental pulp after injury was investigated by histochemistry.

Results

A rat pulp injury model was successfully established simply by pulp exposure. Reparative dentine formation was observed on day 28. TLR4-positive odontoblast-like cells were detected to migrate to the impaired odontoblast layer and formed tertiary dentine by immunohistochemical staining.

Conclusion

TLR4 is involved in the inflammation and repair process after dental pulp injury.
