Subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum after mandibular third molar extraction: Case report

Abstract:

The postoperative symptoms of mandibular third molar extraction commonly include swelling, pain, and bleeding, while subcutaneous emphysema and mediastinal emphysema are relatively rare. This article reported a case of subcutaneous emphysema combined with mediastinal emphysema resulted from mandibular third molar extraction. The causes, diagnosis and treatment, differential diagnosis, as well as preventive measures were analyzed and discussed in order to provide valuable guidance for clinicians.
