During the training meeting of Qingdao children′s oral disease prevention project in August 2018, a validated questionnaire was distributed to participating doctors to conduct a cognitive survey on the management of primary teeth trauma. The chi-square test was used for statistical analysis of the results.

The results showed that the correct selection of the treatment plan for the fracture injury of primary teeth by the dentists in Qingdao was 53.37%. The accuracy of the treatment for the luxation injury of primary teeth was 72.62%. while which was 58.33% for the primary teeth avulsion. Chi-square test results showed that, there was no significant difference in the correct rate of most questions between different medical institutions and dental doctors with different professional titles (P>0.05) . In questions 7, 9, 11 and 13, the correct rate of Pediatric dentists in choosing the treatment plan for primary teeth trauma was respectively (88.9%, 55.6%, 97.2%, 91.7%) , and those of Non-pediatric dentists were 67.2%, 13.7%, 76.2%, 81.1% respectively. The differences were statistically significant (χ27=6.844, P7=0.009; χ29=17.3, P9<0.001; χ211=9.056, P11= 0.003; χ213=2.291, P13=0.130) .

Conclusions

The overall accuracy of the treatment for primary teeth trauma among dentists was low in Qingdao. There was no significant difference between different hospitals and dentists with different professional titles. Pediatric dentists were more likely to have a higher rate of accuracy choice in treatment options for luxation injury and avulsion.
