Evaluation of the effect of health education prescription on patients with implant-supported overdenture

Abstract:

Objective

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of applying health prescription to patients with implant-supported overdenture on health education.

Methods

One hundred and sixtythree patients who got dental implant treatments in out-patient clinics were enrolled in this study, and divided into control group (81 patients) and experiment group (82 patients) randomly. Patients in control group received conventional health education, while patients in test group received health prescription as well as conventional health education. Patients' test scores of dental implantknowledge and compliance of return visit were used to evaluate the effect.

Results

Before health education prescription was done, the average scores of test group and control group were (16.83 ± 13.06) and(18.00 ± 14.04) respectively (t=-0.551,P>0.05). Average difference of the scores before and after health education was (44.83±28.35) in control group and (63.19±19.93) in test group, significant difference was found between the two groups (t=-4.787,P<0.01). And the average times of return visit was (2.26±0.605) in control group was and (3.27±0.707) in test group(t=-9.856,P<0.01).

Conclusion

Applying health prescription to patients with dental implant can promote the outcome of health education and improve their compliance of return visit.
