Abstract:
Objective
To investigate the correlation between the Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)infection and oral lichen planus (OLP) and squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the H.pylori infection, expressions of p53 and p16 in the normal oral mucosa, oral lichen planus and squamous cell carcinoma were detected.
Methods
Twenty-three oral lichen planus, 50 squamous cell carcinoma and 10 normal oral mucosa were tested. The H.pylori infection and the expressions of p53 and p16 were detected by immunohistochemical technique (SP method). The data was analyzed by Fisher's Exact Test, one-way ANOVA and linear regression analysis using SPSS 13.0 software package.
Results
The rate of H.pylori infection in normal oral mucosa, oral lichen planus and squamous cell carcinoma were 0%, 47.8% and 48.0% respectively. There were significant differences between the normal oral mucosa and the oral lichen planus and squamous cell carcinoma (P<0.05). The rate of p53 expression in the H.pylori positive and negative of oral lichen planus were 45.5% and 16.7%, and the p16 were 36.4% and 66.7% respectively. There were significant differences between the groups (P<0.05). The rate of p53 expression in the H.pylori positive and negative of oral squamous cell carcinoma were 91.7% and 84.6%, and the p16 were 20.8% and 30.8% respectively. There were no significant differences between the groups (P>0.05).
Conclusions
There was the correlation between the the H.pylori infection and oral lichen planus and squamous cell carcinoma. The effect of H.pylori infection on the occurrence and development of oral lichen planus and squamous cell carcinoma is needed more explorsion.
