Expression and distribution of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase 1 in human coronal dentin

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the expression and distribution of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in human coronal dentin, thereby explore the effect of TIMP-1 on the dentin formation and reconstruction.

Methods

TIMP-1 in coronal dentin from 21 natural teeth was observed by immunohistochemistry method to exhibit its distribution characteristics.The software Image-pro plus 6.0 was applied to calculate the level of immunoreactivity of TIMP-1.

Results

TIMP-1 was detected throughout the human coronal dentin.Immunoreactivities were identified intensely in the odontoblast zone, the pre-dentin zone as well as the zone adjacent to the dentinoenamel junction, however gradually reduced from the inner layer, the middle layer to the outer layer dentin.

Conclusions

TIMP-1 has specific distribution in human coronal dentin,which indicates its possible role in regulating the extracellular matrix formation, reconstruction and mineralization of the dentin.
