Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the clinical effect of the multi-functional Fixture Mount/Transfer (FMT) as a temporary abutment in the immediate provisionalization of the peri-implant soft tissue morphology and contour profile.

Methods

From January 2015 to June 2016, 43 patients who were treated with Zimmer implantation system were enrolled in this study consecutively in the Department of Oral Implantology, Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The experimental (immediate restoration, 23 Cases) and the control groups (delayed restoration, 20 cases) were treated with 43 Zimmer TSV implants in total. An observation period of six months was taken from the surgery to the restoration of permanent crowns. Digital oral photographs were taken so as to evaluate the effect of FMT in terms of the papilla filling index (PFI) , the pink esthetic score (PES) , and the labial convexity score (LCS) . Specifically, for the experimental group, photographs were taken in two weeks, three and six months after surgery, as well as on the day when the permanent crown was fixed, which was done for the control group. The data were analyzed in statistical software (SPSS 21.0) .

Results

There were significant differences in PFI, PES and LCS between the experimental and control groups (tPFI=-4.242, PPFI<0.001; tPES=-8.508, PPES<0.001; ZLCS=-3.307, PLCS=0.001) . The scores of PFI, PES and LCS in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group.

Conclusions

During the observation period of the six months after the immediate provisionalization of sigle-tooth implants in the anterior maxilla, Zimmer multi-functional Fixture Mount/Transfer played an evidential role in maintaining contour profile and guiding the growth of soft tissue.
