Abstract:

Compared with the traditional surgery, computer-assisted surgery shows great advantages such as higher accuracy and decreased intervention time. Because of complexity of oral and maxillofacial anatomy, as well as the existence of important nerves and blood vessels, maxillofacial surgery is undoubtedly much difficult to be handled. Using computer-aided navigation, surgical plan and real-time navigation, the unexpected damaging of the important tissues can be prevented and the accuracy of surgery can be improved. Therefore, it has been widely used in maxillofacial surgery. Considering the features of maxillofacial surgery, new technologies have been developed upon the original navigation, including the combination of ultrasonic technology, 3D printing, jaw plate and electromagnetic navigation system, which enriched the indications of computer-aided navigation.

Key words: Computer-aided navigation, Soft tissue navigation, Printing, Three-Dimensional, Electromagnetic navigation, Jaw plate
