Abstract:
Objective To evaluate the influences of maxillofacial prosthesis on patients with maxillary defects.
Methods Sixteen patients with maxillary defects were selected in this study and restored with maxillofacial prosthesis. Masticatory efficiency test and speech intelligibility test were conducted to evaluate the functions of mastication and speaking.
Result After 1 month of restoration, masticatory efficiency and speech intelligibility were increased(tmasticatory efficiency=-2.33, Pmasticatory efficiency=0.034; tspeech intelligibility=-2.49, Pspeech intelligibility=0.029).
Conclusion Maxillofacial prosthesis is an efficient method to repair maxillary defects.
