Abstract:
Objective
To investigate the status of fear and anxiety of the waiting patients in stomatology department.
Methods
60 newly diagnosed patients and 60 return-visit patients aged 18-72 were investigated using questionnaire of Gatchel Fear Scale (GFS) and Corah's Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS). Statistical analysis was applied.
Results
GFS showed that treatment compliance in newly group before and after treatment had statistically significance, albeit DAS showed no statistical difference. The difference of GFS and treatment compliance in return-visit group before and after treatment had significant statistical, and the DAS had statistical sense. The difference of GFS& DAS showed statistically significance. The difference of GFS in post-treatment between the 2 groups showed no statistically difference. However, the difference of DAS in post-treatment between the 2 groups had statistical difference.
Conclusions
A part of waiting patients in stomatology department existed different degree of fearing, anxiety and reluctant compliance especially return-visit patients. Giving psychological service to patients before treatment will be conducive to alleviate their fear and anxiety, which has active clinical significance in improving treatment compliance and effect.
