Abstract:
Objective
This study aimed to determine the color match of porcelain veneer restoration among different ceramic systems.
Methods
A2-color porcelain veneer disc specimens(diameter: 10 mm, thickness: 0.7 mm) were manufactured and divided into 3 groups according to different ceramic materials: opaque feldspathic porcelain group, non-opaque feldspathic porcelain group, and IPS e.max Press group.Three discolored underlying discs were made of natural die material resin with the color of ND4, ND6, ND8 (Natural Die Material Shade Guide),which represented low, medium and heavy discolored tooth, respectively. The porcelain specimen was placed on the surface of discolored underlying disc, and then the L*a*b* value of each specimen was measured with Vita Easyshade. The mean color difference (ΔE) between the specimen and shade guide teeth A2 was calculated and analyzed.
Results
The comparison of ΔE value between the specimens and shade A2 between three groups were: IPS e.max Press group <non-opaque feldspathic porcelain group <opaque feldspathic porcelain group. The difference of ΔE was statistically significant among the three groups (P <0.05).
Conclusion
IPS e.max Press heated-pressed porcelain veneer restoration can obtain better expected shade than that of feldspathic porcelain when restore discolored teeth with the same color.
