Abstract:
Objective
To investigate the pattern and correlation of p53 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in canceration of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), p53 and PCNA in the normal oral mucosa, oral leukoplakia and OSCC were detected.
Methods
Twenty leukoplakia of oral mucosa, 31 OSCC and 10 oral normal mucosa were tested. The expressions of p53 and PCNA were detected by immunohistochemical technique (SP method). The data was analyzed by Fisher′s exact test, one-way ANOVA and linear regression analysis using SPSS 11.0 soltware package.
Results
The rates of p53 expression in normal oral mucosa, leukoplakia and OSCC were 0%, 35% and 77.4% respectively. The rates of PCNA in the above-mentioned three groups were 30%, 70% and 96.8% respectively. There were significant differences of the expressions of p53 and PCNA among the oral normal mucosa, oral leukoplakia and OSCC (P<0.05); The expressions of p53 was linear positively correlated to which of PCNA (P<0.01).
Conclusion
The over expression of p53 and PCNA were closely correlated to the process of malignant changes of oral mucosal precancerous lesions.
