Abstract:

Bacteriocin immunity proteins are protective proteins produced by bacteria. They can prevent the bacteria from being affected by antimicrobial and inhibited by the antibacterial peptides produced from the bacteria itself. Streptococcus mutants produce bacteriocin named mutacin, which are antibacterial polypeptides. The synergic effect of bacteriocin immunity proteins and mutacin makes the bacteria live better in complex oral micro-environment, which is one of the reasons for the increased drug resistance. This review summarizes the research progress in bacteriocin immunity proteins of Streptococcus mutans.

Key words: Streptococcus mutans, Bacteriocin immunity proteins, Mutacin, Drug resistance
