Abstract:

Objective

To study the effect of collagen complex tricalcium phosphate (Col/TCP) in repairing condylar cartilage defect.

Methods

3 mm × 4 mm Full-thickness cartilage defects were created in Bilateral condyle of adult rabbit's.The Col/TCP were transplanted to the defects of right sides, nothing were transplants in the other side. The animals were sacrificed at 4,6,8,12 and 24 weeks Postoperatively, the newly formed cartilage in the defects was examined by gross appearance, histology, immunohistochemist and transmission electron microscope.

Results

In the experimental group, 4 weeks later, the defects of the condylar articular cartilage were partially repaired by cartilage tissue, 12 weeks later, mature cartilage filled the defects.Chondrocyte and matix had positive immunohistochemical staining of collagen type Ⅱ, typical chondrocyte were observed through transmission electron microscop in the experimental group.

Conclusion

The defects of condylar articular cartilage could be repaired with Col/TCP, the newly formed tissue was similar to normal articular chondrocyte.
