Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the treatment outcome of fiber-reinforced composite posts and all ceramic crown in restoring extensively damaged molar.

Methods

A total of 33 molars of 28 patients were included. After complete root canal therapy, the teeth were restored with fiber-reinforced composite posts and all-ceramic crowns. Patients were followed up for 1 ~24 months. Clinical examinations and radiograph were taken to evaluate the treatment outcome.

Results

93.9% restorations were found to be intact. Little wane was found in one In-ceram crown caused by hard food biting. One IPS E.max press crown broke for hard biting. One tooth suffered from gingivitis, and was cured by polishing. No loosening, fracture and gap existed among fiber post, composite resin core, dentine and crown. No dislodgment or fracture of posts or roots were observed in all restorations.

Conclusions

The favorable results after 1 ~24 months of clinical service indicate that fiber-reinforced composite post-and-core system and all-ceramic crown are reliable and ideal materials in the restorations of molar residual root and crown.

Key words: Fiber post, All ceramic crown, Molar, Residual root and crown
