Objective
To evaluate the potential factors that might affect orthodontic patients′ aesthetic perception to dental midline deviation from the following three aspects: the ideal value, the detectable value, and the tolerable value.
Methods
An electronic questionnaire was designed to investigate the orthodontic patients who met the inclusion criteria. The patients were asked to select the ideal value, the detectable value, and the tolerable value of a series of pictures with dental midline deviation in the questionnaire followed by an oral examination. The Logistic multivariate regression analysis was used for related factors analysis.
Results
The ideal value of dental midline deviation distributed around 0 mm. Personal information of the patients had no effect on the selection of the ideal value. The education level, orthodontic treatment, and the malocclusion degree were the influential factors of the detectable value. As for the tolerable value, the influential factors contained the education level and the malocclusion degree.
Conclusions
People prefer dentofacial midline consistency. The education level, orthodontic treatment, and the malocclusion degree of the subjects were considered to be the influential factors of the aesthetic perception to dental midline deviation.
